    Kimby’s Biography

Kimby Maxson has always been motivated in the fields of wellness and health. Growing up she was a dancer and intended to eventually study sports medicine, but in her early 20’s the home birth of her first child ignited a different passion. She became a strong advocate for women’s health and safe birthing choices and assisted families as a lay midwife in the Eugene area for many years. During that time, she completed a two year herbal studies program, taught childbirth education courses, and began studying prenatal, labor, and infant massage—which led her to attend and complete the massage program at LCC in 1997. Massage was never intended as a career, but she soon found bodywork to be not only an invaluable tool in the lives of others, but in her own life as well.

In 1998, Kimby was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. Following an extensive surgery she developed lymphedema, which was the driving force in her education in lymphatic therapies. Over the years she has studied multiple modalities and has developed Lymphatic Fusion™—her own unique blend of therapies that have not only alleviated her discomforts, but have improved the health and lives of hundreds of others.

Kimby was the founder and director of a non-profit clinic, Hearts and Hands, that provided low cost alternative and complimentary health services to patients undergoing cancer treatment. She, along with a long list of volunteers, worked with local cancer care agencies and patients to educate and provide assistance during treatment, and beyond. Though the clinic no longer operates, she remains passionate about helping others through their cancer journey and other health challenges. She regularly volunteers with Oregon Cancer Foundation, offers group and private instruction in self-lymphatic drainage, breast health, and individualized movement training, as well as offering trainings and workshops for health care practitioners. She also works with Hip Trips to offer tropical and international health retreats; please see their site for more information.

An important element in her life has always been movement. She finds yoga and dance to be a critical part of maintaining good health. Yoga became a way to manage the restrictions of surgical scar tissue, maintain strength, and flexibility and provide a sense of calm in a sometimes hectic world. Kimby no longer teaches regular group classes, but does teach workshops in lymphatic yoga and Yoga for Better Sex, a class with an emphasis on pelvic floor wellness.

Kimby also has a special interest and deep understanding of hypermobility and Ehlers Danlos Syndrome. Her daughter Jade has struggled her entire life with a vast array of symptoms, for which conventional medicine has little to offer. Together they have developed techniques that help manage these symptoms and allow Jade to lead a more comfortable life. She has authored articles and will be presenting at the Ehlers Danlos Global Learning Conference in the summer of 2024.

Kimby’s compassionate, unique approach to her work combines science, education, intuition, thousands of clients and over two decades of experience. She is driven by a fierce passion to help others discover a better, healthier way to live.

When she is not working, writing or traveling, Kimby, spends as much time outdoors as possible. She enjoys camping, hiking, kayaking, geocaching, and raising kids and chickens.
